Lawn care and irrigation equipment theft is rife, but it’s usually limited to that which thieves can put in the back of a van or a pickup truck. Not so with a recent caper at the Pioneer Irrigation District’s maintenance yard in Caldwell, Idaho, where perpetrators made off with $250,000 in heavy equipment.

Among the stolen equipment was a GMC medium duty truck, a Trailmax trailer, and a John Deere excavator. The thieves cut a lock off the front gate to the maintenance yard in order to make their entry.
