The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District is supporting the use of treated wastewater effluent for landscape irrigation within the city limits of Conroe, Texas. The board recently unanimously approved the wastewater measure, citing the unprecedented growth in residential and commercial property in Conroe that is expected over the coming decades.

Also included in the measure is the use of rainwater for irrigation, flushing of toilets, and the use of drip irrigation and “smart” irrigation controllers. The board said that the water demands of Conroe and Montgomery County would exceed the safe yields of the Gulf Coast Aquifer due to its growth issues, citing the need for innovative water conservation in the area.
