A landscape contractor and his employee helped save the life of a man in a recent fire in South Barrington, Illinois. Landscape contractor Rodrigo Corona and his employee, Eduardo Cruz, had just finished a landscaping job and were driving home when they noticed smoke coming from the back of a house.

“We saw the smoke. I told my friend, ‘Something happened. We need to go to the house,’” said Corona, 39.

Corona and Cruz rushed to the home and saw a man trapped inside and shouted to him. They broke open a window to gain access to the house. The home’s occupant appeared to have limited mobility and had called for help but could not get out of the door, witnesses said. The landscape workers also saved a dog from the fire.
