A record number of states and municipalities have issued official proclamations recognizing July 2013 as Smart Irrigation Month. As of late June, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Virginia had joined the list of official supporters.
At the municipal level, Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Denver and Greeley, Colorado, have also issued proclamations. This support adds credibility to the need for water management.
First launched in 2005 to increase public awareness of the importance of water-use efficiency during summer’s peak demand, Smart Irrigation Month continues to gain support from irrigation companies, water providers and other industry stakeholders. July is traditionally the month of peak water demand, where homeowners typically over-water lawns and landscapes by up to 30 percent.
Industry efforts to promote it range from displaying bumper stickers on company vehicles to fully-integrated marketing campaigns promoting the use of smart irrigation products. The Irrigation Association is holding a Smart Irrigation Month Marketing Contest, where your company can gain industry notoriety and help position it as a leader in this market.
