Last Wednesday, Abel de Jesus Monroy, 27, vicously and without reason attacked Judith Guido, chairperson at Guido & Associates, at her home in Moorpark, California. He has been arrested and is being held on two counts of attempted murder, attempted arson, residential burglary and animal cruelty.

Monroy, a member of a landscaping crew that Guido had hired to work on her property, began acting erratically while on the job. He accused another crew member of being the devil and made other bizarre statements, according to authorities. Armed with a pickaxe, he began to attack the fellow crew member, who escaped by jumping over a wall at the back of the property.

Monroy then took the pickaxe and killed Guido’s dog, which had begun barking during the disturbance. Next, he broke a window in Guido’s house, coming after her with the axe. She managed to get out of the house and start running down the street before he hit her with the pickaxe. A neighbor found her lying in the street, unconscious and bleeding from the head.

Monroy then went back into Guido's home and turned on the kitchen burners, in an attempt to burn down the house. He was arrested at the scene and taken into custody, where his bail was set at $1 million.

Guido was rushed to a local hospital, where she was listed in intensive care and underwent surgery to repair her skull. Almost miraculously, she is now listed in stable condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family at this very difficult time.
