Justin DeWitt, president of Lawn and Landscaping Solutions, Inc. Riverside, Iowa, has been charged with four counts of attempted murder and four counts of solicitation to commit murder. He has also recently been found competent to stand trial; the finding comes from a mental health evaluation which was discussed at a competency hearing.

DeWitt is accused of trying to orchestrate a murder-for-hire scheme intended to kill his former business associate and the associate’s family, including two children. Police said the contractor, 37, agreed to pay an undercover state agent--who he thought was a hitman--$8,000. In a separate case, Dewitt was also charged with three more counts of attempted murder, for allegedly trying to hire a hit man to kill three people who are set to testify against him in his trial. He has pleaded not guilty in both cases.

Dewitt is facing up to 25 years in prison for attempted murder, and ten more years for each of the solicitation to commit murder charges.
