The police are spreading the word about a sudden increase in thefts of landscape equipment in Union, New Jersey. According to reports, a number of work trucks and trailers have been stolen from storage yards around the city over the last two weeks.

Some of the trucks reported missing have since been recovered in Newark, New Jersey, by authorities. But to the dismay of the owners, many of the blowers, mowers and other equipment were found stripped from the vehicles.

Police are encouraging landscape contractors to take more precaution when securing their trucks and property. One tip they are recommending is putting a name or phone number on tools and lawn equipment. “Whether it’s installing GPS trackers, cameras or alarms, please do something to help prevent a future theft,” read a post from the department’s official Facebook page.
