Lou Palazzi Jr., 63, is the third-generation owner of Palazzi Landscape Gardening of Dunmore and Newfoundland in Pennsylvania. The company is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Lou Jr.’s grandfather, Palazzi patriarch Augusto Palazzi, who emigrated from Italy in 1908, began the landscaping business in 1917 in New London, Connecticut, and moved to Dunmore in 1921.
Lou believes his family’s business is the third-oldest landscape/gardening business in the nation still run by the same family. The business will continue under the family name for a fourth generation as Lou’s children, Rich, 28, and Danielle, 22, are now involved.
Though many of the family members took on other careers in separate fields, they always kept a hand in the family business. “It makes me feel unbelievably proud,” Rich Palazzi said. “I really couldn’t picture myself doing anything else.”
