An announcement to develop an electric leaf blower came from a rather unexpected company – Tesla. Just when you thought the electric car company’s CEO, Elon Musk, was focused on revolutionizing the automotive industry, he announced via Twitter the possible development of this new product.
Musk wrote on Twitter that his company is planning to “develop a quiet, electric leaf blower.”
While several manufacturers already produce electric leaf blowers, Musk says the device will recharge quickly and have a long-lasting battery.
He also says the company may already have the parts to build it. “We can probably just repurpose Model 3 HVAC parts,” he tweeted. “Not a big deal.”
It's unclear if the leaf blower would be a whole new product line for Tesla or a limited offering.
A few years ago, Musk founded another non-automotive project, The Boring Company, an infrastructure and tunnel construction company.
According to a USA Today article, this idea came to Musk when he became frustrated from being stuck in traffic. He took to Twitter saying, “Traffic is driving me nuts. Am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging...”
The Boring Company also produced the viral limited-edition “not a flamethrower” flamethrower, which quickly sold out. The devices were priced at $500 each.
While these examples prove that Musk has delivered on his tweeted promises, we’ll just have to wait and see if he follows through with the electric leaf blower or if it’s just another Twitter musing.
