New landscaping and a pool were donated to the Purple Heart recipient.

In Gilbert, Arizona, a veteran who suffered a life-changing combat injury received an unexpected gift from local businesses who joined together to give her backyard a makeover, according to an article on the Fox 10 News website.

Holly Katke served for 14 years in the military before she was shot during a combat mission in Iraq in 2010. A sniper’s bullet landed in the back of her head, causing paralysis on the right side of her body and legal blindness.

To thank Katke for her service and sacrifice, local business owners said they wanted to do something special for her.

The White Heart Foundation, Sunburst Landscaping, and Above and Beyond Pool Remodeling came together to give Katke, who is a Purple Heart recipient, a remodeled backyard and brand new swimming pool.

Michael Sandoval, founder of Above and Beyond Pool Remodeling, is a former U.S. Marine, and he says being able to give back to someone who gave all like Katke is priceless.
