The American Public Works Association, Kansas City, Missouri, hosted a Winter Operations Summit from May 27-29, 2020, highlighting educational content from the cancelled 2020 North American Snow Conference.
This three half-day virtual event featured a virtual exhibit experience with North American Snow Conference exhibitors and more than 10 presentations provided by industry experts on a wide variety of winter planning and operational topics.
“With the inability for all of us to meet with one another in person, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to explore new ways to deliver our excellent education and create new online experiences for our members,” says APWA CEO Scott Grayson, CAE. “The topics covered were intended to inform our members about future snow and ice control processes and preparation, as well as in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. We’re extremely proud of the flexibility and entrepreneurial spirit that our staff has shown and their capacity to adapt our great North American Snow Conference to an interactive virtual event that will have a measurable impact for our members.”
“I want to thank everyone who participated in the past few days,” said APWA President-Elect Mary Joyce Ivers. “We made lemonade snow slushes out of lemons, and we encourage and challenge you to continue looking for ways to improve your programs and stay connected with others to share important knowledge. In the coming months, our programs and education will be taking new forms, but APWA is excited for these opportunities, and will continue to meet the needs and challenges of our members and all public works professionals.”
Winner of the 2020 APWA Winter Operations Summit Best New Product, as voted on by Summit attendees, was Yeti for their Yeti Snow and Ice Management Platform. Yeti’s Snow and Ice Management Platform connects operations and crew with a real-time dispatch dashboard and mobile app to simplify event management.
If registrants were unable to attend a live session, advanced access to session recordings will be made available to registrants on an unlimited basis for six months following the live program.
Additional repurposed content from the cancelled 2020 North American Snow Conference will be released in October 2020.
