The company is helping the hospital with its annual fundraiser.
Lucas Oil Products Inc., Corona, California, a manufacturer and distributor of additives and lubricants, is helping Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital of Loma Linda, California, raise awareness for its annual #GivingTuesday fundraiser, which will take place on Dec. 3.
#GivingTuesday, also called the National Day of Giving, was established in 2012 by several organizations and is centered around encouraging people to give back to their local communities on the first Tuesday immediately following Black Friday. This year, that day falls on Dec. 3.
Greg Cozzo, a member of the Activation and Promotions team at Lucas Oil, is familiar with the quality health care LLUCH provides the community. Having grown up in the Loma Linda area, he often finds himself back at the hospital to coordinate visits by Lucas’ Off Road Drivers to the institution’s younger patients.
This is how Cozzo met Emmanuel, who had been airlifted to LLUCH shortly after birth for treatment of a condition known as meconium asphyxia. The condition causes respiratory distress in infants and can be fatal if not treated immediately.
LLUCH provided quality patient care for the infant Emmanuel. A team of nurses and doctors worked rigorously for 41 days and 40 nights in the NICU to bring him back to health.
“Growing up in the shadows of Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, I spent a few days here in my youth with some bumps and bruises, and to work for a company like Lucas which actively promotes being involved in our communities, it was a real honor to be a part of sharing their message for #GivingTuesday,” says Cozzo. “Especially getting to spend time with little Emmanuel, who is such an inspiring young man!”
“Giving back to local communities has always been a priority for us at Lucas Oil Products,” says CEO Tom Fredrickson. “Health care centers like Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital go above and beyond for their patients and the community. That’s why helping raise awareness for a fundraiser like #GivingTuesday is important to us. If we can help just one hospital generate enough support to provide quality health care to locals, we will have done our job.”
Lucas Oil encourages everyone to give back to their local communities on Dec. 3 and beyond. Anyone who wishes to make a financial contribution to LLUCH can visit the hospital’s website. Clothing donations and volunteers are also needed for its annual holiday toy drive and Santa Workshop.
